Woman raped on Lahore motorway in front of her children On September 9, 2020, two men raped a woman at gunpoint while she was waiting for help on a motorway after her car stopped working in Pakistan The woman along with two children was traveling to Gujranwala in a car she was driving when she had to stop at the Gujjarpura section of the Motorway after running out of fuel at around 1.30 am. She immediately called a relative and sent him her location. He advised her to dial Motorway police helpline 130, but her calls went unattended.

The incident occurred on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway in the Gujjarpura area, in the province of Punjab. In the meantime, two robbers threaten the car, broke the window, and took the ill-fated woman and her children to nearby bushes where they raped her repeatedly in front of the children. They also snatched her purse carrying Approximately 1 Lac in cash, one bracelet, car registration and three ATM cards, and some other things.

Gujjarpura police have registered a case and started an investigation. When approached Motorway police, the spokesman said the incident did not occur within the limits of Motorway police. He said the Carol Ghati and Gujjarpura didn’t fall within the limits of Motorway police said. The Gujarpura Police claimed the crime took place on the Sialkot motorway. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has directed the police chief to arrest the culprits at the earliest. After the IGP’s instructions to the CCPO, CIA teams have expedited their efforts to arrest the culprits.

According to Pakistani media, the police official said two armed men found the woman alone, took her and her children to a nearby field at gunpoint, and gang-raped her, adding that police had developed a team to trace the culprits. “So far 12 suspects have been arrested and search is going on,” an official was quoted as saying.

A statement released by the Punjab Police also confirmed the arrests and said that 20 teams of Lahore Police and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), headed by the deputy inspector general of police (investigation) had been constituted on the orders of Inspector General Inam Ghani to investigate the case.

As per Pakistani news reports, it said that police were taking all necessary measures, adding that “no stone will be left turned to provide immediate justice to the victim and her family’’, Pakistani news outlets reported.
